6 miles from authentic lobster villages of Jonesport & Beals Island. Cottage setting is rural, private and peaceful. Spectacular ocean views. View the stunning sunrise on your own private deck. Amazing night sky without light pollution. Watch bald eagles soar overhead, shorebirds in abundance, occasional seals playing and sunning. Located on the Great Bar - at low tide walk out and harvest your own fresh mussels or just enjoy your own private beach. Watch lobster boats at work on the water. 15 miles to Roque Bluff State Park with sandy beach and hiking trails. 15 miles to Machias - UMM campus, Summer Machias Bay Chamber Series in July/Aug., Blueberry Festival in August. 80 mi/1.5 hour drive to Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park depending on traffic or 45 min. to Winter Harbor ferry to Bar Harbor. 50 miles to Lubec/Campobello Island. This is an ideal location if you are looking to get away from the crowds and traffic jams of so many summer tourist locations. It is like stepping back in time to a slower, unhurried pace. Cottage is clean and well cared for; we hope you will treat it with care if you stay with us. It is a very special place. It was our vacation retreat until we built a retirement home nearby and moved here full time in 2007.
